The University Libraries Course Reserves Service provides access to supplementary course materials in support of the University's academic mission and operates in compliance with U.S. Copyright Law.
Instructors are asked to accept full responsibility in complying with the provisions of the Copyright Revision Act of 1976 that governs the "fair use" of copyrighted objects for educational purposes. There are four factors to consider when determining fair use:
Submitting a Reserve Request form indicates acceptance of the conditions in the statement of copyright compliance that accompanies the form.
The library will not place materials on reserve if it judges that the nature, scope, or extent of the material is beyond the reasonable limits of fair use.
The course reserves service allows college faculty to place instructional materials, such as textbooks, on reserve for students in their course. These items are held at the Circulation Desk in Oesterle Library and can be borrowed by students for a shorter circulation period than that for general circulating materials.
Loan periods for reserve materials vary. Items with a loan period shorter than one day are for in-building use only.
