Using the Archives and Special Collections

Let us help you access these materials for your research. The materials, manuscripts, and books housed in the North Central College Archives & Special Collections do not circulate and must be used in the Archives Reading Room. Email us to make an appointment to visit and get started.

Open by appointment, Monday through Friday.
8:30 am - 4:30 pm (last appointment at 4 pm).

Mission Statement

North Central College Archives collects, organizes, describes, preserves and makes available for research and reference materials on the history of North Central College, Shimer College, and the western Chicago suburbs after World War II. The Archives supports the College community's need for historical information and provides reference assistance to researchers from on-and-off campus.   

The North Central College Special Collections consists primarily of rare books and publications that hold long-term, historical research potential for North Central College academic programs. The collections support a broad range of research and teaching activities in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Donating Materials to the Archives

College units and departments wishing to transfer material to the Archives, please contact the Archives at archives@noctrl.edu or 630-637-5714 

Alumni, Student Organizations, & Retired Faculty

We encourage you to consider donating papers, small artifacts, and media that document your activity as students or professors at North Central College or Shimer College. 

Please review this donations information sheet to learn what is of specific interest. Then, reach out to the Archives with any questions, or to make arrangements. We request that you contact the Archives first before mailing or dropping off items. This ensures that the Archives can properly preserve your donation, and make it available for researchers.
