North Central College’s
connection to and interest in Pacific Rim countries dates back as early
as 1875. In this year, the General Conference of the Evangelical
Association voted to establish an Evangelical mission in a non-Christian
land and chose to begin in Japan. The first missionary, Adolph Halmhuber,
studied English language study at North Central College prior to taking
the field. In 1900-1904, the church established missions in China,
with the support of North Central College students demonstrated by their
transmission of $1100 for the China missions.
